Shotgun practice before dove season is most useful when it combines safe handling, checking how the shotgun patterns, and deliberate clay-pigeon practice. Always check current Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations directly before hunting.

Start at the Patterning Box Range

Eagle Peak’s separate shotgun box range lets customers test how a shotgun fires and evaluate shot spread or pattern. Cardboard boxes are provided upon request. A short-range box check is not a substitute for understanding the pattern at the distances you expect to hunt.

Practice Consistent Fundamentals

Use a repeatable stance and mount, keep the muzzle in a safe direction, and work at a controlled pace. If you are unfamiliar with your shotgun or with clay-target practice, arrange instruction directly with one of the independent instructors listed on the Instructors page.

Eagle Peak’s Clay-Pigeon Area

Eagle Peak has nine self-operated clay-pigeon stations, including three covered positions. It is not a skeet, trap, sporting-clays, or five-stand course. Ask staff for the current thrower operating instructions before use, and stop and report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment.

Plan the Visit

Clay pigeons cost $20 for 90. Shotgun rentals cost $25 for the whole day and must use ammunition purchased from Eagle Peak. Eye and ear protection are required in the range area.
